Tommy Blaize Trio

Tommy Blaize is the most popular singer on British television. No one else entertains the 12 million people that Tommy entertains, week in, week out. He’s a man alone in a band apart, front and centre with the UK’s most- loved musical troupe. And he’s been there for 14 years!

Tommy is the man with the golden pipes in the Strictly Come Dancing band. Every Saturday night, every year from mid-September to late December, the lead vocalist in the BBC’s primetime ratings juggernaut fills the nation’s living rooms.

He’s a soul man at heart, but a singer of versatility, range and passion, able to soundtrack any routine by any celebrity in any genre.

Tommy’s early career saw him in Ibiza working with a band seven nights a week, four sets a night, last set at four in the morning. After two full-on years he moved back to the UK,

“To supplement me staying in London I started doing sessions: Craig David, Lewis Taylor, David McAlmont, Take That, Basement Jaxx, Brian Eno, Tina Arena, Incognito, Joe Cocker...

I was keyboard player, backing vocalist, MD... “And that,” he shrugs, “was it - the word got around. Every week there would be a different person ringing me to come do some studio work, or anything. It just snowballed.”

Tommy ended up working with them all. Among a myriad of other engagements, he was part of the band at the London and New York concerts to honour Nelson Mandela’s 90th birthday, which meant performing with the likes of Queen, Aretha Franklin and Stevie Wonder.

He was asked by Rod Stewart to come play his wedding (well, one of them). And he was invited on to a world tour by Robbie Williams.

With talent like his, and exposure like that, an artist album was an obvious next step. Universal offered Tommy the chance to make his debut solo record. He already had a band, a core of musicians who play with him both on Strictly and at his own regular jazz club shows around the country.

And he already had a musical sweet spot: the soul and R&B classics that Tommy heard at his parents’ knees and which had him performing live from the age of nine.

‘Life & Soul’ was released on 1st December 2017, topping both the Itunes and Amazon pre-order charts before spending 2 weeks in the UK top 40 in the run-up to Christmas.

“With this album, you get to hear all of me,” Tommy concludes,
“and not just the little 90-second edits you hear on a Saturday night. Life & Soul is full of magical moments.

It’s songs you already know, sprinkled with sincerity and something special – just us in a room singing and playing our hearts out.
You might say it’s 15 seasons of Strictly boiled down into the essence of something soulfully brilliant – just without the dancing. But if we do a video,” he laughs, “I’ll have a go!”
